effrey L. Singman has been appointed head of the Higgins Armory Museum's Curatorial Department and to a position as a nontenured faculty member in WPI's Humanities and Arts Department. The post is the first such collaboration between cultural and educational institutions in Central Massachusetts.
Singman's responsibilities include overseeing the museum's curatorial department and conducting research into its collections, teaching, creating seminar, internship and project programs for WPI students, and helping these students prepare temporary exhibits within the collection.
A specialist in medieval and early modern cultural history, Singman is fluent in written Latin and several modern European languages and has taught courses in mythology, medieval civilization, Elizabethan history, Latin and Icelandic. He holds the museum's Paul S. Morgan Curatorship, named for the prominent Worcester businessman who is a Higgins Armory Museum honorary trustee. The Morgan family has been associated with WPI since the University's founding. A trustee for 25 years, Morgan received an honorary doctor of engineering degree at Commencement in 1995.
