PI's club hockey team made it to the finals of the North East Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament this winter. The team's winning effort began with a 9-3 triumph over Bryant College that brought the men into the semifinals in Westborough; it was followed with a 4-3 overtime victory against Coast Guard Academy. In that game, Adrien Robenhymer '01 scored the tying goal with 10 minutes left in regulation play and assistant captain Tom Birmingham '99 netted the final point five minutes into overtime.
The team then lost in the finals to undefeated MIT. Despite the heroic efforts of Robenhymer, Kyle Donovan '99, Conan Buzby '00 and Jonathan Keaney '00 (who had 45 saves in the run for the finals), the score was 4-3 against WPI. MIT players and coaches said coach David Roy's team was the best they'd faced all year and they felt lucky to have won. The team ended the season 12-7-1 with a second-place finish in the New England College Hockey Association tournament.
