PI welcomed the public and area officials to tour its new MetroWest Campus in Southborough, Mass., in a grand opening ceremony on March 9. The 15,000-square-foot campus includes several classrooms, state-of-the-art computer labs, and a student computer lab. The Office of Continuing Education, which oversees the new facility, moved operations to Southborough in January after it outgrew the University's Westborough campus, established in 1994. WPI's other branch campus, in Waltham, Mass., was enhanced last year with the addition of a new computer lab and two other classrooms.
"The continued expansion and technical development of our branch campuses enables us to accommodate more of the many working professionals who seek to advance their careers in today's burgeoning economy," says Arlene Lowenstein, dean of continuing studies. "The move reflects WPI's ongoing commitment to providing business and technical professionals with high-priority graduate education, information technology training, and public and corporate professional development programs. The campus is open 70 hours a week to meet the scheduling needs of working adults.
Evening graduate programs in computer science and in electrical and computer engineering will also be available in Southborough. "WPI's graduate certificate programs in Communications and Communications Networks are among the most in-demand programs in this region," says Dianne Horgan, director of graduate admissions. "The University is committed to working with local and regional companies to provide a highly educated work force in this part of the commonwealth." WPI offers these and other full- and part-time graduate engineering, management and science programs at its main campus in Worcester and at the Waltham campus.
