Design class helps physically challenged pupils

For the 60 seniors in ME Professor Douglas Walcerz's Introduction to Design class, it was to be a different assignment as a final project. Divided into teams, the students were challenged to design and build workable devices that would help three differen t physically challenged youngsters from the Wachusett Regional School District.

Working with Nan Fellows, district coordinator for special services, the students built implements to lend a helping hand to an 8-year-old with cerebral palsy, a sixth-grader who is dependent on oxygen, and a 5-year-old with cerebral palsy who needed an i nclined writing surface.
