The kegs of Worcester County
Wachusett Brewing Co. was among more than 40 New England microbreweries represented at the first Brewers Festival on April 13 at the Worcester Centrum. Founders Ned LaFortune, '90, Kevin Buckler '89 and Pete Quinn '89 had an opportunity to meet with customers and serve samples of their Wachusett County Ale and Wachusett IPA (India pale ale, a darker brew).
The "beer guys" have become a familiar presence on campus. At Homecoming, thirsty crowds invariably line up beside their big white truck, which bears a picture of Mount Wachusett, and their brews are also featured at Reunion gatherings. The Class of '89 enjoyed a tour of the Westminster, Mass., brewery in March. LaFortune was a presenter at the Entrepreneurs Collaborative last year, and WBC's success story was featured as part of "The Entrepreneurial Spirit" series in the Spring 1995 WPI Journal.
