This project utilized the biopolymer (lambda-kappa carrageenan) and involved its preparation and testing for heavy metal removal (copper)
using equilibrium dialysis. Of special concern were identifying the conditions of the processes needed to recover the copper ions from the polymer solutions so that the polymer may be recycled and the metals made suitable for disposal or made reusable.
