The objective of this project was to design a system for measuring the affect of quench orientation and air speed on aluminum. Several steps were taken to complete the project; the assembly used for experimentation was designed and fabricated, a matrix of the experiments to be performed was made, and the probes to be used in the experiments were designed and fabricated. The assembly was designed in Solidworks and its main goal was to allow a probe to be the same distance from the fan at any orientation. In turn the probes were all designed to be identical in size (minus the large probe) but with different surface finishes. Finally, the matrix was designed to give us the necessary amount of information in order to analyze our variables correctly.
