Visual attention is the study of what makes certain features of scenes noticeable. It is an important research area in computer graphics and game design. By exploiting patterns of visual attentions, game developers can render scenes much more efficiently. We have studied what visible features people notice during gameplay while they pursue a short-term objective. We found that there is a relationship between task intensity and the loss of attention by having volunteers play a custom map of Doom 3.
