    Abstract

Rayleigh-Benard convection is a particular type of thermal convection problem. The first step in the project was writing computer code to find computational solutions, using algorithms from numerical analysis. Analytical results from the literature were used to verify these computations. Linear stability analysis was then used to get an overview of system behavior. Finally, bifurcations were tracked computationally to develop an understanding of the system as the two main system parameters, Rayleigh number and aspect-ratio, were varied.
