    Abstract

The purpose of this IQP was to investigate in the most concise manner possible, DNA fingerprinting and its relationship to society as it currently stands. To accomplish this task, we introduced what DNA Fingerprinting technology is and how it's used, and the collection, preservation and processing of DNA samples. We focused on some of the landmark court cases that helped to establish DNA fingerprinting as not only reliable but a necessary tool for criminologists. Further, we documented some of the sensational court cases likely already known to the reader, reminding them of the role that DNA evidence played. And finally we discussed the controversial topic of DNA databases, with a focus on the FBI's CODIS.
