    Abstract

The need for cost efficient methods of maintaining education has been crucial in the state of Massachusetts. In order to verify whether or not school district regionalization is a viable solution to the education budget crisis in the state, a cost-benefit analysis was conducted to determine the social and fiscal implications of school consolidation in the sample frame, Worcester County. Several hypotheses were tested by data-driven research and replication of research models to compare and find correlations between various socioeconomic indicators. Furthermore, the General Laws of Massachusetts and current legislature regarding regionalization were reviewed, leading to the endorsement of a legislative bill and recommendation to reevaluate the current education funding formula.
