Title	Sustainable Redevelopment Strategies for Structures in Informal Settlements

Abstract Thousands of people live in insufficient housing throughout the informal settlements of Cape Town, South Africa. The growth of these areas has outpaced attempts to address the housing problem. The focus of our project was to propose a new redevelopment strategy for the in-situ upgrading of buildings in these settlements. With the help of community members, field experts, our sponsor Ecobeam, and through our own research, a sustainable and eco-friendly redevelopment plan was designed to present alternatives to the current building methods.
