Want to Get a Bound Paper Copy?

WPI no longer requires a bound copy of your thesis or dissertation, but Gordon Library will arrange binding of your personal copies through a commercial bindery. If you plan to have copies of your thesis or dissertation bound this summer, please note the following bindery schedule:

June 2008: Last date to be delivered to library - 12:00 noon June 18       returned week of July 21

July 2008: Last date to be delivered to library - 12:00 noon July 15       returned week of August 18

August 2008: Last date to be delivered to library - 12:00 noon August 12       returned week of September 15

Hint: If you are getting a bound paper copy, you might as well use the same margins on your ETD - there's no reason to reformat your thesis for one and not the other.

Getting Started

If you wish to have you thesis bound, there are a few simple rules you will need to follow:

  1. You must use 8-1/2" x 11" paper.
  2. For impressive presentation, the paper should be of good quality - the library recommends 20-25% rag content. Regular photocopy paper will do if you so desire.
  3. The margin on the left hand side of the document must measure one and one-half inches (1 1/2"). Margins on the other three sides must measure at least 1 inch.
  4. Page numbers cannot be located within the 1" margin and must be situated in the middle of the top of the page, in the middle of the bottom of the page, or in the upper right-hand corner, not on the left side.

Getting Your Bound Copy Made

  1. Bring your printed thesis or dissertation you wish to have bound to Judy Fallon in the Technical Services area on the entry level floor of the Gordon Library. Be sure that all pages are right side up and in numerical order when delivering your document for binding. The library will not be responsible for correcting the position of pages!
Also, please note that the Library will not make copies of your report - you must make the copies you need and bring them to the library.
  2. Place your order for the bound copies.
  3. Go to Accounting in Boynton Hall (second floor) and pay your binding fees - $10.00 per copy.
  4. You will be notified when to pick up the finished bound copies.

If you have questions about these procedures, please contact Judy Fallon, jf@wpi.edu.
