Research
My main area of research is modern Chinese history. My active research interests include Chinese reform efforts in the Qing and Republican periods, urban history, and Taiwan history. I am currently working on a history of the city of Taipei that explores the effects of the various forms of colonialism that Taiwan has experienced on the formation of Taipei’s urban identity. My teaching interests include the above, as well as Japanese history, Korean history, women’s history, identity formation, and imperialism.
