Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Visual Identity Policies & Style Manual

Proper Usage of the Marks: WPI Logo

Legibility:

The WPI Logo must appear large enough so that the letters in the seal are legible to an average reader or viewer. As a general guideline, the seal should appear no smaller than half of an inch high on a printed piece or 65 pixels high on a Web page.

Integrity:

The parts of the WPI Logo constitute a single graphic element and may not be edited or rearranged. In particular, the simplified seal may never be used by itself as a distinct graphic element.

Prominence:

The WPI Logo must be placed so that it appears prominently and so that other graphical elements are not permitted to draw attention away from it. It should be positioned far enough away from other logos and marks so that they do not appear to constitute a single, unified element.

Use of Colors:

The red and black version of the WPI Logo must appear on a light background. The one-color version may appear in black on a light background, or in white dropped out of a dark background.

Use With the WPI Signature:

The WPI Signature should, if possible, be used in the same visual space to convey the meaning of the initials in the logo. See the section on that WPI mark for more information.

Department Identification:

When appropriate, the name of an academic or administrative department may be positioned below the WPI Logo to create a department identifier.

Remember, for all marks:
