Publication of Web Addresses
When you print or otherwise disseminate WPI Web addresses to external audiences, it is not necessary to prefix the address with http://. For example, the address, http://www.wpi.edu/Academics/CCC, may be printed as
Before Web addresses are printed in publications, in news releases or in e-mail newsletters, it is imperative that they be double-checked by either clicking on the link within the text-editing program you are using, or by copying and pasting the addresses into your Web browser. This should always be part of your final proofing before your materials are sent to the printer or distributed. CMS Approvers are strongly urged to verify every link in any content they approve.
Please check this list of URLs to be sure you are using the shortest form of your department's Web address in your publication!
Failure to double-check URLs may result in incorrect Web addresses being distributed, which not only reflects poorly on you and your department, but also on WPI. Even worse, an incorrect address in a publication strands potential site visitors who want more information about the university but cannot get to it. In the event an incorrect URL is published the Web Operations Department will try its best to redirect it to the correct location however most incorrect URLs can be redirected.
Whenever a new print publication is planned the best course of action is to contact the Web Operations Department and request a landing page URL. This landing page URL will have a unique identifier in the URL so that we can report how many visitors went to your page as a result of reading the brochure. This will help determine which brochure messages are most effective and if readers of the brochure are following up on the Website.
If you are unsure about a Web address, please contact the Web Operations Department at webmaster@wpi.edu before you publish it.
