Goddard Centennial Events

Robert H. Goddard, WPI's best-known graduate, received his Bachelor of Science degree in general science from WPI on June 10, 1908. Throughout 2008, WPI is observing the centennial of this milestone with a series of special events. Here are the activities scheduled so far:

Commencement, May 17, 2008: The 100th anniversary of Robert Goddard's WPI graduation was noted in addresses delivered from the stage during the university's 140th Commencement exercises and in an essay by WPI President Dennis D. Berkey that appeared in the Commencement program.

Old Tech: Robert Goddard and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, through July 1, 2008: This special collection of archival materials and photographs documenting the connections between Robert Goddard and WPI was created by the staff of the George C. First Annual Commemorative Water Rocket Competition, June 7, 2008: WPI's Physics Department is celebrating the centennial of the graduation of Goddard, WPI's most famous physicist, with a competition open to Worcester-area students of all ages.
