Recyclemania Competition Ramps up through February
WPI this week kicked off Recyclemania, a nationwide recycling competition among colleges and universities to see which campus can collect the largest amount of recyclable products. If you have any old files, newspapers, or piles of old junk mail, consider recycling it this week. Facilities Department staffers will be prepared to empty paper recycling containers more frequently during this event. During last year’s RecycleMania, WPI ended the competition with a recycling rate of 34.71% and ranked 9th in the state out of 26 institutions. WPI collected 38.9 pounds of waste per person. We plan to make the month of February the clean-out month, although we will continue to clean out the paper recycling bins on a regular basis. If you plan to have a major clean-out and you need additional bins, or if you want to give us a heads-up on a major paper clean-out project, just let your custodian know or send an email to ltomasz@wpi.edu or pellerin@wpi.edu. RecycleMania is a trademarked program of the RecycleMania, Inc., a non-profit 501c3 organization governed by a steering committee made up of recycling and sustainability managers from a variety of participating universities.
