Speaker Tom Robertson - Airplanes and America: A Geographic History of Aviation
Tom Robertson, Associate Professor in the Humanities & Arts department at WPI, spoke on April 30th about the ways in which the existance of airplanes have changed humanity.
"This talk will use photographs and maps to explore the various ways airplanes have shaped three areas: 1) fuel, aluminum, and other resource use; 2) the spatial arrangement of people and things on the planet; and 3) American knowledge about the natural world. Examples come from the entire twentieth century, but the emphasis will be on the transition to jets in the 1950s and 1960s."
