Across from the Power Plant is Stratton Hall. Built in 1894 with funds from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the building was the first home of WPI's Mechanical Engineering Department. In 1942 it was named for Charles G. Stratton, a member of WPI's Class of 1875 who served as a trustee and president of the Alumni Association.
Today, Stratton houses the Department of Mathematical Sciences. On the second floor you'll find a new computer classroom for teaching mathematics, part of a campuswide effort to create state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and learning. Also in Stratton is the Center for Industrial Mathematics and Statistics, a focal point for student projects and research in applied math conducted for corporate sponsors.
