Eric W. Overström
Senior Vice President
Eric is the university’s chief academic officer, responsible for the overall quality of teaching and research activity of the university, as well as oversight responsibilities for all 14 academic departments, plus academic support and resource operations. Jeffrey S. Solomon

Chief Financial Officer
Jeff is responsible for overseeing the accounting and treasury operations, budget and planning, construction, renovation, and maintenance of the university’s physical facilities, investment management, procurement, risk and compliance, WPI Police, IT, and the Unified Digital Campus initiative.
Prior to joining WPI, Jeff was at Brandeis University for 11 years, most recently as its vice president, chief investment officer, and chief risk officer. A certified public accountant and a former audit manager at Coopers & Lybrand, he received degrees from Brandeis University and Bentley College.
Kristin R. Tichenor
- Senior Vice President
Kristin oversees the areas of enrollment management, marketing and communications, and student affairs for WPI. She plays a key role in meeting WPI’s undergraduate and graduate enrollment goals, including retention-related activities, institutional research, and diversity outreach. She represents WPI on many fronts, including media outreach and op-eds, collaborations with academic department heads, and leadership in regional and national organizations.
In terms of professional engagement, Kristin leads the College Admissions Collaborative Highlighting Engineering and Technology (CACHET), a national forum for colleges dedicated to promoting opportunities for students in engineering and technology. She has served as chair of the College Board’s Program Planning Committee and the New England Regional Council, and has been active in the National Association of College and Admissions Counseling (NACAC) and the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools in Mathematics, Science, and Technology (NCSSSMST). Kristin earned her BA from Carleton College and her MA in education from Clark University

Stephen P. Flavin
- Vice President and Dean, Academic & Corporate Development
Stephen leads the Office of Corporate Engagement, Corporate and Professional Education, and the Career Development Center at WPI. He has been a member of the president’s senior leadership team since 2006. His primary focus is to develop, foster, and manage strategic relationships with industry in a comprehensive manner that spans multiple interests across academic disciplines while also delivering long-term, measurable outcomes.
Prior to assuming his current role, Stephen held senior management positions at Babson College, concluding as the dean ad interim of Executive Education. Previously, he was director of the Encapsulated Knowledge Business for Global Knowledge Network, a leading international provider of IT training and education. He holds a BS and JD from Suffolk University.

William J. McAvoy
- Vice President, University Advancement
Bill is responsible for all philanthropic initiatives on behalf of WPI, including fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, the Annual Fund, and Planned Giving. He also oversees the Alumni Relations office, responsible for maintaining close ties with WPI’s 32,000 alumni spread across the country and in 91 countries worldwide, and Community and Government Relations. In addition, he leads if…The Campaign to Advance WPI, the Institute’s $200 million capital campaign launched in May 2012 and scheduled to reach its goal in 2015.
Prior to joining WPI, Bill spent 11 years as the director of development for the Museum of Fine
Arts in Boston, where he led a successful $500 million capital campaign. He previously held senior advancement positions at the Museum of Science, Pine Street Inn, and Plimoth Plantation. He holds a BS in biology from the University of Connecticut and an MA in public administration from Suffolk University.
A. Tracy Hassett
- Vice President for Human Resources
Tracy is responsible for providing strategic vision and oversight for employee programs, including recruitment, payroll and benefits, wellness, and employee training. She joined WPI in 1998 and has helped grow the Institute into an inclusive and engaged community of over 800 staff and faculty. She manages a broad array of programs, from professional development workshops to new healthcare coverage for employees, to the implementation of a paperless payroll system.
She also led the creation of the Leadership Development Institute, a professional development program for WPI managers and supervisors. In 2011 she formed the HR Advisory Group, a panel of WPI community members that initiated mentoring and information programs for new employees.
Tracy previously served as manager of human resources for Bowditch & Dewey, LLP. She is currently president of the Collaborative Educational Ventures of New England (CEVoNE), is past president and current board member of the Southern New England College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. She also serves on several educational boards, including EdHealth, a newly formed self-insured health insurance captive created for private schools in New England. She holds a bachelor of business administration from Roger Williams University and certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.
Sports and Recreation Center
Dana Leigh Harmon
- Director, Physical Education, Recreation & Athletics
Dana is the sixth athletic director at WPI, and the first woman to serve in that role, a position she has held since 2002. She oversees the physical education program for the university's 3,900 undergraduates; 28 club sports with 680 students; an intramural program with over 1,200 participants; and WPI’s Division III athletic program with 20 varsity sports and over 600 student-athletes.
Under her leadership, the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics has grown in all areas, including an expanded physical education curriculum, increased club sports offerings, and an athletic program that has reached new heights for success in the classroom, in competition, and in the community. WPI student-athletes excel at the conference, regional, and national levels, both athletically and academically, while having higher graduation rates and GPAs than the general student body. Dana has also provided leadership and development for the transformation of WPI’s sport facilities, including a new Sports & Recreation Center, a new rooftop sports complex, the renovated Alumni Stadium, and the continuing renovation of Harrington Auditorium.
Prior to her appointment at WPI, Dana served as associate director, then acting director, of athletics at Wellesley College. She is a graduate of Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., where she played Division II basketball. She received a BA in business administration from Bellarmine before earning an MS in sport management from UMass Amherst in 1994. She was an inaugural inductee into the Anderson High School (Cincinnati) Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding accomplishments in basketball, soccer, softball, and track & field.

Philip N. Clay
- Dean of Students
Chief Student Affairs Officer
Philip oversees an array of student services and programs designed to support WPI’s 4,300 full-time undergraduate and graduate students. He is responsible for Residential and Dining Services, Campus Center and Student Activities, Counseling and Health Services, Disability Services, and International Students and Scholars. He and his team support WPI students across a range of issues—from helping freshmen adjust to college life, promoting involvement in student organizations and leadership programs, to guiding students toward the appropriate academic resources. He also oversees Judicial Affairs and coordinates the WPI Care Team, a group of professional staff that meets weekly to address the safety, welfare, and academic success of students.
Prior to joining WPI, Philip worked in student affairs at SUNY Potsdam and at Binghamton University. He holds a BA from St. Lawrence University and an MA in art history from Binghamton University.

Amy M. Morton
- Chief Marketing Officer
Amy works closely with senior leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive university-wide marketing strategy and brand identity for WPI.
An experienced executive in higher education, publishing, and K–12 professional development, she is also responsible for driving new revenue and meeting key performance indicators for WPI through improved processes, analysis, and reporting, and by improving communication strategies for WPI products and strategic initiatives. Her specialties include change management, market research, budgeting, creative problem solving, ROI tracking and analysis, event programming, and brand development.
Before joining WPI, Amy was vice president of marketing at Pearson Education, one of the world’s largest educational publishing companies, where she directed the marketing efforts of a $640M STEM publishing program. She holds teaching certificates in elementary and special education in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and California, and a teaching degree from Providence College.

Deborah C. Scott
- Chief Information Officer
Deborah leads the Information Technology Services division and oversees a broad range of IT strategies and services for WPI.
This includes Academic Research Computing, Academic Technology Center for teaching and learning, Enterprise Information Systems, Hosting Services for administrative and academic software applications, Support Services, Networking, Telecommunications, Information Security, as well as high-speed Internet2 through the Goddard GigaPop to both WPI and surrounding colleges and nonprofit organizations. She leads through a collaborative process, empowering IT staff to partner at all levels within the organization to design optimal technical solutions for WPI.
Previously, Deborah was executive director and chief technology officer for the Division of Student Affairs at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her information systems and technology experience prior to higher education was in public technology focused companies, including QAD, Rockwell International, and Raytheon. She earned a BS in electrical engineering from California State University, and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
