WPA Wireless Installation
Please note that due to the widely varying nature of Android distributions, we cannot fully support wireless under Android. The directions offered here are provided on an AS-IS basis. These directions are based on Android 2.1 update 1 as installed on a Motorola Droid subscribed to Verizon Wireless. Other hardware, Android, and provider versions may differ significantly.
Requirements
- Make sure your wireless card is registered through WPI Network Registration (http://netreg.wpi.edu/). Select [Register New Machine], then choose Wireless: Mobile Wireless Systems from the IP Range list.
- Wait 30 minutes for your registration to become valid
- Using your phone's existing Internet access, browse to the WPI Wireless network secure download page.
- Log in to using your CCC Unix or Windows account.
- From there, click on the link for the Android version of the "Network Operations CA Certificate File". Your phone will prompt you to import it. If there is more than one CA, repeat the import process for each one.
- Next, select the Android version of the "Wireless User Certificate File". When prompted, enter the "Wireless User Certificate Password" (found near the top of the secure download page) to extract the certificate. When prompted, name it "Wireless User 09-10" (use the current academic year).
- Find and open the "Wi-Fi Settings" menu on your phone.
- Check the "Wi-Fi" box to turn on Wi-Fi.
- After a few seconds, you should see WPI-Wireless ("Secured with 802.1x EAP")
- Touch WPI-Wireless to open a settings window, and enter the following settings:
- EAP method: TLS
- Phase 2 authentication: None
- CA Certificate: select WPI Netops CA
- User Certificate: select Wireless User for the current academic year.
- Identity: WPI Wireless
- Anonymous Identity: Leave blank
- Wireless Password: Leave blank
- Click Connect.
- It may take up to a minute to connect. You should see the wifi icon appear in your notification bar once you are connected, and the "Wi-Fi" checkbox in the wireless & network settings menu will say "Connected to WPI-Wireless" as well. You may need to turn Wi-fi off and then on again if you are unable to connect the first time.
