Apple iOS Devices
WPA Wireless Installation
These directions will walk you through the Apple iOS wireless configuration process. This includes the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Please note that due to the widely varying nature of mobile devices, we cannot fully support wireless on them. The directions offered here are provided on an AS-IS basis.
Requirements:
NOTE - Your wireless card needs to be registered through WPI Network Registration (http://netreg.wpi.edu/) prior to working on the WPI Wireless Network. You will need your hardware MAC address in order to register.
Depending on your configuration, you may choose one of two methods to install the wireless configuration. If your device has some other form of connectivity that you can use, such as a 3G connection or you use wireless at home, you may use the Direct Download directions.
If, on the other hand, you do not have any other convenient form of connectivity, you may instead download the certificate using a PC and the iPhone Configuration Utility.
Downloading on Devices With Existing Connectivity
- Make sure your wireless card is registered through WPI Network Registration (http://netreg.wpi.edu/). Select [Register New Machine], then choose Wireless: Mobile Wireless Systems from the IP Range list.
- Download the iPhone mobileconfig file to your device. You will be asked for your CCC username and password.
- Open the file. You will be prompted to install the profile. Select Install and proceed with Installing a Downloaded Profile.
Downloading on Devices via iPhone Configuration Utility
- Make sure your wireless card is registered through WPI Network Registration (http://netreg.wpi.edu/). Select [Register New Machine], then choose Wireless: Mobile Wireless Systems from the IP Range list.
- Download the iPhone mobileconfig file to your device. You will be asked for your CCC username and password.
- Launch the utility. If you do not have it installed, you may
download it from Apple. In the Library pane, select "Configuration Profiles".
- Select File, Add to Library, and open the downloaded mobileconfig profile.
- You should now have the WPI Wireless profile listed in your library.
- Connect your device to the PC. After a few moments, it
should show up as an available device in the Devices
section of the iPhone Configuration Utility.
- Select the
Configuration Profiles tab, highlight the WPI Wireless
profile out of the list, and click on the Install button.
- Proceed with Installing a Downloaded Profile on the device.
Installing a Downloaded Profile
- When prompted on the device, tap Install. If you already
have a configuration in place for the WPI-Wireless
network, you will be prompted to either replace the
existing configuration or to keep your current one.
Choose Replace
- When prompted, confirm installation of the Root Certificate
by tapping Install Now.
- You will be prompted to enter a password for the identity
certificate. Enter the password from the key
download page.
- The profile should then be successfully installed. When WiFi
is enabled, your device should automatically connect
to the WPI-Wireless network.
