Research
My current research interest involves using molecular tools in a number of applications. Most recently I have been studying two intestinal parasites C. parvum and E. bieneusi that are related to the wasting disease in AIDS and to diarrhea in general in both humans and animals. I have interests in isolating genes that are possible drug targets for the intestinal parasites Cryptosporidium parvum and Enterocytoon bieneusi. I am also interested in developing assays to detect and genotype C. parvum and Enterocytozoon bieneusi from clinical samples, both human and veterinary. I have also participated in developing animal models to study these parasitic organisms. I have also recently developed an interest in manipulation of organisms used for bioprocessing as well as the purification of products produced in these fermentations.
