Projects & Oppotunities
Major qualifying project (MQP) in the broad area of tissue engineering involve the design of both new tissue types and techniques for creating them. Most of this research and design work is done in the BME department, however, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field, the techniques used are often found in other areas such as biology, mechanical engineering, and material science. Below is a list of recent projects categorized by general areas of biomaterials research with links to the advisors for these projects.
Devices for TE
- Design of a dynamic bioreactor for connective tissue engineering (Billiar)
- Aerosol Delivery of Cells for Tissue Engineering (Camesano, DiBiasio)
Design and characterization of engineered tissues
- Rational design of biomimetic basal lamina analogs (Pins)
- Delamination mechanics of normal and engineered skin (Pins)
- Design and characterization of self-assembled collagen microthreads (Pins)
- Freeform Production of Cartilage Structures Using Aerosol Methods (Camesano, DiBiasio)
- Purification and characterization of bacterial polysaccharides (Camesano)
