Materials & Structures Laboratory
The Materials/Structural Laboratory (2,500 ft. sq.) is set up for materials and structures testing. The laboratory is utilized for undergraduate teaching and projects and graduate research. The laboratory is divided into three facilities. The first area is for materials processing, grading, mixing, forming, curing and aging. This includes materials such as aggregates, portland cement, concrete, fiber reinforced composites, and high performance structural materials. The second is for asphalt mix materials processing and evaluation which includes a scaled accelerated pavement facility. The third is the mechanical testing lab. The following equipment and facilities are available:
- Tinius Olsen 400,000 lb capacity tension compression and low cycle fatigue with PC control and data acquisition.
- 120,000 lb capacity Instron fully computerized servo-hydraulic testing machine with 10Hz fatigue testing capability.
- Sintech 5000 lb electro-mechanical fully computerized testing machine.
- Instron Dynatup Mini Tower impact testing machine.
- ASCERA hydraulic tensile tester, 700 bar pressure
- Concrete mixing, forming, and curing and testing
- Gradation and sieve analysis testing
- Aggregate testing
