You choose the courses that will give you what you need to succeed. Whether you are seeking a career in traditional chemistry, the life sciences, or materials research, WPI offers classes that allow you to self-design the right educational experience for you. Your education can be further enriched by classes in management or entrepreneurship.

Your work at WPI, as well as the connections you’ll make with our world-class faculty and excellent students, is great preparation for a large variety of career paths. Our graduates can be found everywhere, from leading positions in Fortune 500 companies to startups to academia.

Research and Facilities

Your research, funded by major federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, explores areas such as biochemistry and biophysics, molecular design and synthesis, green chemistry, and nanotechnology. You’ll join a community of exceptional scholars and learn and discover side by side with faculty and students from our department, as well as many other disciplines. We’re not shy about our achievements, either; our students regularly present their findings at national and international conferences.

Our state-of-the-art facilities include the Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park. This interdisciplinary center houses cutting-edge equipment and instrumentation to help you make discoveries that advance scientific knowledge and benefit us all. Generally, students are supported by teaching and research assistantships.
