Two tenure track faculty openings

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications from scientists working at the interface of chemistry and biochemistry for two tenure-track positions starting in August 2009: one at the ASSISTANT and one at the ASSOCIATE Professor level.  Extending successful faculty recruitment in the last two years, these are part of a strategic plan to expand our department within a larger WPI Life Science research initiative focused in biophysics, green energy and regenerative science with a total of five hires planned in these areas in this year.  A new $70M state-of-the-art research facility hosting the Life Science research departments and WPI Bioengineering Institute anchors this effort.  Successful candidates for the junior position should have postdoctoral research experience and are expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program.  The ideal applicants at the Associate level will have an established record of research productivity, demonstrated success securing research funding, and evidence of teaching excellence.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers both undergraduate and graduate (Ph.D.) degrees. WPI is a private, selective technological university with an undergraduate student body of 3700 including 1000 full-time and part-time graduate students. Worcester, New England’s second largest city, offers ready access to diverse economic, cultural and recreational resources of the region. Further information about WPI and the Life Sciences Initiative can be found at http://www.wpi.edu/goto/lifesci

Applicants should send pdf-formatted applications including a curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching interests, and the names of three references to faculty-searchCBC@wpi.edu.   Inquiries can be addressed to Dr. José Argüello, Chair, Search Committee, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, MA 01609.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until suitable candidates are identified.
