Emergence lays the groundwork for a new direction in theater, entertainment, and fine art. Reinventing the use of new digital full-dome planetariums, this production combines innovative visual and virtual environment technology, sophisticated virtual orchestras, and an immersive 360-degree performance space with live audience interaction. Through the actions of the individual audience members, a group behavior will emerge which will carry the signature and imprint of a collective consensus that does not exist in the individual parts. The interactive strategy in Emergence reveals various forms of teamwork and cooperation that are often transparent or difficult to observe within the framework of our individual lives.
In Emergence, the interaction of each audience member, within the full-dome immersive environment, causes a complex chain of processes leading to some order. The beauty arises through discovery within a system in which the solution paths and outcomes have not been pre-described. The self-organizing system emerges from the multiple interactions within. Emergence is scheduled to premier in the spring of 2010.
