Style Sheets, Documentation, and Plagiarism
Many years ago, the Department adopted a Style Sheet for Humanities and Arts Courses and a Statement on Documenting Sources and Avoiding Plagiarism. Discuss citation, documentation, and plagiarism with your instructor and advisors in the Humanities and Arts. Many additional resources regarding citation-style and documenting sources are also available.
- Citation Resources WPI
- Research Circuit: Citing Sources WPI
- Sources: Their Use and Acknowledgement Dartmouth
Citation styles for electronic resources are evolving rapidly. Where possible, citations to electronic articles should now include the DOI (Digital Object Identifiers), an alpha-numeric code registered to each scholarly article as a persistent link to the article, instead of the URL and date of access. A number of resources are available. See, for example:
- APA Style Guide to Electronic References with information about DOI
- Chicago Manual of Style Online (see ch. 16 for basic documentation patterns and ch. 17 for specific content)
- Research and Documentation Online by Diana Hacker
- Online! a Reference Guide to Using Internet Sources
- Library of Congress: How to Cite Electronic Sources
Additional Resources at WPI:
- WPI Gordon Library has site licences to RefWorks and EndNote Web. These tools help to manage citations and simplify the use of different styles.
- WPI Center for Communication Across the Curriculum Resources
Project Forms
The following forms are available for students completing a Humanities and Art Sufficiency Project:
