IQP and HUA Advisor Retreat
Tuesday, May 12, 2009 8am to 4pm
Hoagland Pincus Conference Cetner, Shrewsbury MA
The theme of the 2009 Retreat for IQP and HUA Advisors was Keeping Things in Perspective: Issues of Health and Safety While Off Campus. Data gathered over the last few years dictated the need for a focus on these critical issues. This retreat was co-facilitated by Natalie Mello (Director of Global Operations), Philip Clay (Dean of Students) and Michael Curley (University Compliance Officer).
Topics discussed included:
- WPI incident data for the past three years - there has been a dramatic increase in the numbers of health and safety incidents involving our students at project centers. It may be due to increased reporting ( a good thing!), but regardles of the reason, the increase deserves attention.
- Transportation issues - because WPI pays such close attention to these issues on campus, it MUST pay the same level of attention when transporting students OFF campus.
- Risk management
- Determining risky activities
- Student judicial issues
- Working with Milennial students
- Housing Issues - it is critically important to vet anywhere that students will be staying overnight assoiated with their project (even if provided by the sponsor). Use this link to connect to the on-line housing checklist.
