Africa Track Planning an Interactive Project in Windhoek, Namibia, or Cape Town, South Africa? Or are you planning to complete your Humanities and Arts requirement in Morocco? Then you might want to consider an International Studies minor with a "Africa Track."
An Interactive Project at Namibia or South Africa (or one unit of work for your Humanities project in Morocco) counts as one unit of the three units required by the minor. One unit of courses from your Humanities and Arts or Social Science Requirements may count towards the minor’s international electives. ID2050 may count as an elective or as a cross-cultural course. All that remains is one unit (three courses) in the International Studies "core." The core requires one history course, one cross-cultural course, and HU 4411, Senior Seminar in International Studies. One unit of the minor may not double-count with other degree requirements.
Here are several examples of an Africa track. These are merely examples and the courses you choose could be different. The only course that everyone must take is HU 4411.
1 unit International Core OR:HI 1341 Introduction to Global History 1 unit Humanities and Arts or Social Science courses
HU 3411 Pro-seminar in Global Perspectives
HU 4411 Senior Seminar in International Studies

The goals of WPI's International Studies minor are to extend students' global horizons, enhance their disciplinary majors, and expand their career opportunities in the international arena. The International Studies requirements integrate student’s courses, projects, and overseas experiences. Since the background and goals of each student are different, these requirements are flexible. In essence, the Africa Track is a sample program that demonstrates how students with experience at one of the Project Centers in Africa may shape the minor to meet their goals.
How to Declare
For further information, consult the requirements in the on-line catalog, complete the International Studies Minor Planning and Approval Form (PDF), and contact an advisor in International Studies.
