Asia Track Planning an Interactive Project in Bangkok or Hong Kong or a MQP at a project center in Shanghai, China or Japan? Then you might want to consider an International Studies minor with an Asia track.
A project at Bangkok or Hong Kong (or another Global Project Center) counts as one unit of the three units required by the minor. One unit of courses from your Humanities and Arts or Social Science requirements may count towards the minor’s international electives. All that remains is one unit (three courses) in the International Studies "core." The core requires one history course, one cross-cultural course, and HU 4411, Senior Seminar in International Studies. ID2050 may count as an elective or the cross-cultural course. One unit of the minor may not double-count with other degree requirements.
Here are several examples of an Asia track. These are merely examples and the courses you choose could be different. The only course that everyone must take is HU 4411.
1 unit International Core OR:HU 1412 Introduction to Asia
HU 3411 Pro-seminar in Global Perspectives
HU 4411 Senior Seminar in International Studies1 unit Humanities and Arts or Social Science courses
1 unit Interactive Project at Bangkok RE 2724 Religions of the East
ECON 2125 Development Economics
HI 2328 History of Revolutions in the Twentieth Century
1 unit International Core HI 1341 Introduction to Global History
PSY 2406 Cross-Cultural Psychology
HU 4411 Senior Seminar in International Studies1 unit Humanities and Arts or Social Science courses
1 unit Interactive Project at Hong Kong HI 2343 East Asia: China at the Center
BUS 1900 Introduction to Business in an International Environment
HI 3343 Topics in Asian History
Courses in Thai or Chinese language and culture such as ID2050 to prepare for an Interactive Project in Bangkok or Hong Kong may also count towards the electives or cross-cultural component of the International Studies minor.
Since the background and goals of each student are different, these requirements are flexible. In essence, the Asia Track is a sample program that demonstrates how students with experience at a Project Center in Asia may shape the minor to meet their goals.
