Jerrold M. Shapiro, Ph.D.

In the 33 years he has been in the medical device industry, Dr. Shapiro has been both an intrapreneur within larger organizations and an entrepreneur in small and startup companies. He is an effective motivating leader who originates and develops new medical devices from concept through design, prototyping, pilot manufacturing, international clinical trial, regulatory approval, production and technical service. He developed more than a dozen surgical devices and invented and patented four diagnostic devices. As Director of Operations for Spectrum Medical Technologies, Inc., he managed the redesign, production and repair of a high power laser for skin surgery. As Director of Engineering for Optical Micro Systems, Inc., he managed the fast-track development of concepts for six new microcomputer-based ultrasonic surgery devices into manufactured products in five months. As Ophthalmology Program Manager and Senior Scientist for Candela Laser Corporation, he directed project teams in development of systems for eye surgery, managed a multicenter international clinical evaluation of a surgical laser and introduced seven new products at a major ophthalmology meeting within four months. As Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at Boston University’s School of Medicine and College of Engineering, he trained surgeons in the principles of laser surgery, biomedical engineers in electronic and medical instrument design, and legions of students in project design and management. His latest venture, GFH Medical, is a marketing partnership which helps medical device manufacturers outside the US overcome the barriers to entry to the US healthcare market. GFH Medical recently launched a women’s health product from Finland called FemiScan™ which trains incontinent women to become dry. Among his many volunteer activities, he has served as Chairman of the Program Committee of the WPI Venture Forum for three years, and has been an active member of this committee since 1996. Jerry earned his doctorate in Bioengineering at the University of Michigan, his Master of Science in Bioengineering from the same institution, his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now Polytechnic University.)

Jeremy Shapiro is the President and Founder of Asandia, a Framingham based corporation specializing in helping small business owners realize their dreams by leveraging the technology in the workplace. Jeremy has been working with computers for the last two decades and brings over six years of professional computer consulting experience to the Asandia Team.
In his goal to help small business owners, Jeremy serves on the membership committee and ambassador subcommittee of the Smaller Business Association of New England, the marketing committee and website sub-committee of the WPI Venture Forum, and the leadership team of his local BNI Chapter.
In addition, Jeremy is a trainer for the Certified Networker Program, a college level course helping business professionals generate more business through referral based marketing. Jeremy teaches six, six-week CNP curriculums throughout year in the Wellesley area.
One of the things that has been said about Jeremy is that he has the enthusiasm of someone his age and the wisdom of someone twenty years his elder.

Darleen Flaig founded Product Solutions International, Inc. in late 1995. PSI acts as an out-sourced "Purchasing Department" by managing the global manufacturing, quality control, and shipment of consumer goods for its clients. Concentrating on household goods and giftware items, the Corporation specializes in products which combine several materials such as glass, metal, wood, bamboo, fabric, and resin / plastics in factories around the world.
Prior to the founding of PSI, Darleen had been directing the development and manufacture of consumer products (from concept to carton) for major corporations since 1982. She has conducted business in more than 20 countries.
Past Corporate projects included a wide variety of consumer products including:
- A personal care line (skin creams, cosmetics, toiletries) for Japan- (annual sales exceeding $60 million.)
- A world wide educational toy line - annual sales $20 million
- A world wide costume jewelry line - annual sales $25 million
Darleen earned a Master's Degree in Communication from Western Michigan University, and is a member of the adjunct faculty at Newbury College where she teaches various courses, including International Business, Small Business Management, and Logic + Critical Thinking.

Dr. James H. Miller is Chairman and Chief Scientist of FarSounder, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island. He is also Professor of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Previously he was Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He earned his Doctor of Science in Oceanographic Engineering in 1987 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He earned a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1981 from Stanford University and a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1979 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is the author of 100 publications and has been awarded honors for research at the Naval Postgraduate School and University of Rhode Island. He is a member of the Acoustical Society of America and IEEE. He is a member of the Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies.
