Albert G. Prescott

WPI '90 CM

Founder, President & CEO, Crescent Innovations

Crescent Innovations, Inc. was founded in 2000 and incorporated in Delaware in 2001 to develop products using proprietary polymer technology. These state-of-the-art polymers are used to treat both chronic and acute pain, as well as controlled release/drug delivery products.

Al Prescott was a senior process development engineer at Anika Therapeutics Inc., a manufacturer of HA-based ophthalmic, orthopedic, and surgical scar reduction products. Mr. Prescott has worked and consulted for some of the preeminent biotech and biomaterials companies including Genzyme, Genetics Institute, BASF Bioresearch, and W. R. Grace and Company. Mr. Prescott has a Bachelor of Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology and a Master of Science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He has held many positions in the technical and customer service field of the polymer, pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device fields. His responsibilities have included all aspects of operations including facility construction management, product development, project management, budget management and personnel management. Mr. Prescott has led numerous cross-functional teams in the areas of new drug/device development from projects as simple as generic drug approval, to devices as complicated as bio-artificial pancreases.

William Scaglione

President, Professional Enterprise Solutions, Inc

William Scaglione is a member of the WPI Venture Forum. He has worked for over 30 years in the financial, administrative, and marketing organizations of both large corporations and emerging businesses.

He has extensive experience in business simulation modeling, forecasting and profit improvement. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from Northeastern University and earned an MBA at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.

Mr. Scaglione is the President of Professional Enterprise Solutions, Inc., a newly-formed five-person company that provides expert consulting, software deployment and network integration services on behalf of Dell, Hewlett Packard and Altiris. The company’s staff routinely supports such high profile clients as Wal-Mart, Wendy’s, DHL, GMAC/EDS and the U.S. Army.

Bill is also the creator of Profitbuilder, a business intelligence and reporting solution designed for small and mid sized businesses. Profitbuilder affordably delivers the 'big company visibility' that smaller enterprises need to be successful. It is expected that a commercial version of the product will be available within 24 months.

Thomas Wharton

CEO, JAIMEE Network Services

Thomas Wharton was the Founder and Chair of the Worcester Area Telecommunication Infrastructure Forum and the Co-founder and Director of the Worcester InfoTech Project. Mr. Wharton is also the President of JAIMEE Corporate Services, a provider of investment banking and corporate development services. After eight years as a field engineer at IBM, Mr. Wharton was a business consultant at WCCI, a Senior Consultant at Ernst and Young, and President of the Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation. He has also owned six businesses and has held the position of CFO, CEO, President, or Chairman in several others. His community involvement has included being on the Board of Trustees and holding various corporate offices for Girl's Inc., Performing Arts School of Worcester, The International Center, Edward Street Day Care Center, and others. He is also a member of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, the American Management Association, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Venture Capital Association of New England. Mr. Wharton holds a BSBA degree from Clark University and an MBA in Finance and Management from Indiana University.

Amar Kapur

WPI '69 CM

Founder, Aimtek

Amar V. Kapur came to the United States in 1963 from Bombay, now Mumbai, India. Amar holds a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from the University of Bombay and a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree from WPI in Chemical Engineering (class of 1965 and 1969, respectively). He also holds business certificates from Amos Tuck, Dartmouth University, and Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University.

Amar worked for E.I. Dupont, Caterpillar and Bayer (formerly Mobay Chemical) and currently works for Aimtek and Atech Turbine Components companies with his wife, Ani, and son, Jay, who is a mechanical engineer from WPI, and his daughter, Rita.

Amar is the vice chairman of the WPI Venture Forum, member of the M.I.T. Venture Forum, TiE Venture, Massachusetts Telecommunication Council and the Association for Corporate Growth (Boston Chapter). He is also the past vice chairman of the Worcester Zoning board and past board member of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce.

Amar is currently on the Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Economic Development of Auburn, Massachusetts.

Aimtek, the company Amar and his wife started, manufactures specialty gases, precious metal brazing products and distributes welding supplies, industrial gases and metal coating powders. In the past three years, Aimtek has purchased Bay State Surface Technologies and Atech Turbine Components, Inc.

Aimtek was selected the 1990 and 1998 Small Business Subcontractor from Region 1 (New England) by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Aimtek supplies products globally and some of their customers are Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Boeing, IBM, Pratt & Whitney/Division of United Technology, Norfolk Southern and Consolidated Edison of NY.
