At WPI, physical activity is an integral element of a well-rounded college experience - whether you take on Physical Education classes, varsity sports, intramurals, club sports or recreation play. Our sports and recreation programs have the same goals as our academic programs: helping you prepare for life and get the most out of your education.

Varsity Sports

WPI has 20 varsity sports (10 men's, 10 women's) classified within NCAA Division III. We enjoy membership in the ECAC, NEWMAC, Liberty League, and NECCWA. Check out Conferences and Associations for more information about these organizations.

WPI athletics has a long proud history and we have enjoyed our share of intercollegiate success in tournament, conference, and national championships. We are equally proud of the accolades and awards bestowed each year on our student-athletes, including Scholar All-America, All-America, All-Region, All-New England, All-Conference, and Academic All-Conference honors.

In addition, WPI has been proud to accept the Worcester College Cup, emblematic of the most successful varsity athletics program among the nine participating colleges in Worcester County, in three of the last four years. This cup is awarded annually to the college with the highest aggregate varsity sports winning percentage by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. WPI captured the cup during the 2003-2004, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 academic years.
