Academics
To earn the bachelor of arts degree in Environmental Studies, students must complete 15 units of coursework. In addition to the Degree Requirements students must complete the Humanities and Arts Requirement (2 units), the Interactive Qualifying Project (1 unit), free electives (1 unit), and physical education requirement (1/3 unit). The university-wide Social Science requirement will be completed in the course of fulfilling the requirements for the Environmental Studies major. Similarly, the Environmental Studies Major courses could satisfy the HUA requirements if a student follows HUA guidelines for course selection.
Educational Outcomes
The objectives of the BA degree in Environmental Studies are that all graduates:
- Be able to identify, analyze and develop solutions to environmental problems creatively through sustained, multi-faceted investigation.
- Have mastered fundamental concepts and methods of inquiry in their areas of environmental thought, policy and methodology.
- Be able to make connections between environmental disciplines and to integrate information from multiple sources.
- Be aware of how their decision-making processes affect and are affected by other individuals separated across time and space.
- Be aware of personal, societal and professional ethical standards.
- Have interpersonal and communication skills and a professional attitude necessary for a successful career.
- Understand and employ current technological tools.
- Have the ability to engage in life-long learning.
