2011 FRC Local Kickoff
Kickoff Information
Date: January 8, 2011
Time: 9:30 AM - 1 PM
Room: Salisbury Labs 115 - Campus Map
WPI will host a Local Kickoff for FIRST Robotics Competition teams on Saturday, January 8th. Since this is an official local kickoff event, teams will be able to watch a webcast of the kickoff event, as well as pickup their kit and see many of the elements of the 2011 game field. Space is limited!
How do I sign up?
Teams can sign up to attend a local kickoff in TIMS from October through December 2010. Be sure to fill in the correct number of attendees as well as select the correct location for kit pickup. If you do not select this properly, there will not be a kit available on-site for your team to pick-up!
How many team members can I bring?
Our currently scheduled location for kickoff is in Salisbury Labs 115 (Kinnicut Hall) on the WPI Campus. This room seats 220 people theater style with a large projector screen. We currently set the number at 20 teams with 10 members each. However, if teams bring fewer attendees we will be able to accommodate more teams. As we see the trend of signups, we will be able to invite more teams or more people on each team until the room is filled. Teams may bring mentors and students.
Where should I park?
All attendees should park on the Quad or West St. to attend the event. We will have signs for "WPI Robotics" directing attendees from those areas to the kickoff location. Please review this parking and location map before the event.
What should I bring with me?
It is advised that you bring a handtruck or other rolling cart to transport your kit boxes to your car. Kit disbursement will happen from the basement of Higgins Lab. You will be able to either take the kit directly from our ground-level loading dock around the building or walk through the building and exit the front door onto the quad.
You may want to bring a camera, tape measure, and means to take notes on any field elements that are available to you on site.
What is the kit pickup procedure?
Kits will be available for any teams who have indicated such in TIMS. Teams may begin arriving as early as 9:30AM, although the live broadcast does not begin until approximately 10AM. Upon arrival, a team MENTOR must sign-in and receive your Kit of Parts (KoP) receipt. This piece of paper is what you will need to receive all elements of your KoP. At the conclusion of the live broadcast, team members will proceed to Higgins Lab to pickup their kits. Each station will have a different item and teams must provide their KoP receipt to that station volunteer who will check off that they received their item. After all items are received, a MENTOR will be required to turn in the receipt and sign off that all items have been provided to them. Typically, all teams go through check-out and can leave with their KoP by 12:30PM at the latest.
What happens if it snows?
There will be no snow date available since we will be watching a live broadcast. Since campus is generally closed on this date, we will do our best to make sure it is plowed and accessilble for teams. We simply ask you to be cautious and drive and walk safely in the event of inclement weather. If your team cannot make it or not make it on time, please contact us immediately to arrange your kit pickup.
Will there be any workshops?
We currently do not plan to host any workshops as part of our local kickoff. Teams are advised that they can attend Kickoff Workshops in Manchester, NH on Friday, January 7th even if they are attending a local kickoff event. If your team would like us to host a workshop, or have one you would like to host at our site, please let us know and we will make arrangements.
