2009 FRC Local Kickoff

Kickoff Information

Date: January 3, 2009

Time: 9:30 AM - 1 PM

Room: Olin Hall 107 - Campus Map

WPI will host a Local Kickoff for FIRST Robotics Competition teams on Saturday, January 3rd.  Since this is an official local kickoff event, teams will be able to watch a webcast of the kickoff event, as well as pickup their kit and see many of the elements of the 2009 game field.  Space is limited!

How do I sign up?

Teams can sign up to attend a local kickoff in TIMS from 16 Oct to 5 Dec.  Be sure to fill in the correct number of attendees as well as select the correct location for kit pickup.  If you do not select this properly, there will not be a kit available on-site for your team to pick-up!

How many team members can I bring?

Our currently scheduled location for kickoff is in Olin Hall 107 on the WPI Campus.  This room seats 200 people theater style with two large project screens.  We currently set the number at 20 teams with 10 members each.  However, if teams bring fewer attendees we will be able to accommodate more teams.  As we see the trend of signups, we will be able to invite more teams or more people on each team until the room is filled.  Teams may bring mentors and students.

Will there be any workshops?

We currently do not plan to host any workshops as part of our local kickoff.  Teams are advised that they can attend Kickoff Workshops in Manchester, NH on Friday, January 2nd even if they are attending a local kickoff event.  If your team would like us to host a workshop, or have one you would like to host at our site, please let us know and we will make arrangements.

What should I bring with me?

It is advised that you bring a handtruck or other rolling cart to transport your kit boxes to your car.  Kit disbursement will happen from the basement of Higgins Lab.  You will be able to either take the kit directly from our ground-level loading dock around the building or walk through the building and exit the front door onto the quad.

You may want to bring a camera, tape measure, and means to take notes on any field elements that are available to you on site.

What happens if it snows?

There will be no snow date available since we will be watching a live broadcast.  Since campus is generally closed on this date, we will do our best to make sure it is plowed and accessilble for teams.  In the event that you team cannot make it, please contact us immediately to arrange your kit pickup.
