Research

Virtually every new breakthrough in medicine begins as a new discovery in a university laboratory. BEI seeks to identify emerging technologies and nurture them to the point where commercialization can commence. Many of the technologies that will one day become the basis for exciting and important products and businesses through BEI-engineered partnerships will have their origins in the work of faculty and students in the BEI multidisciplinary research programs.

The BEI supports basic and applied research aimed at advancing the development of medical technologies with the potential to be commercialized. To date, research at the Bioengineering Institute has yielded over 200 papers and presentations in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific meetings. Faculty investigators have several issued patents and many others pending. Their work has attracted sponsorship agreements for applied research and product development from pharmaceutical, medical device and bioprocess companies
