About the Center
Structure
The fee structure is reviewed by the steering committee on an annual basis as budget and expenditures are reviewed. The fee is used to pay for the infrastructure costs and the support of the research staff and graduate students to carry out the research projects of CIS. The annual fee for membership is $20,000.
In addition to the annual workshops on the research projects being pursued by the CIS staff, a Technological Symposium is scheduled in the spring of each year. The purpose of the Symposium is educational in nature, in that plenary sessions, tutorials, and industry leaders on a particular cutting edge topic are featured. The Symposium addresses emerging topics facing the imaging and sensing community.
Intellectual Properties and Patents
In the case of intellectual property (IP) resulting from CIS funded research, the CIS membership, through its Steering Committee, will determine if it has an interest in obtaining a particular patent or copyright. If the CIS membership has an interest in a particular invention, the executive director will notify WPI of that interest and recommend that WPI proceed with the filing of any patents or copyrights. CIS members will have royalty free use of the IP that results from CIS work funded by the membership.
