ACRC Welcomes the International Copper Association (ICA) as Its Newest Member
It is with great pleasure that we announce that the International Copper Association (ICA) has joined the ACRC. Hal Stillman, who attended the May meeting, will be the primary contact. Please join us in welcoming the International Copper Association as ACRC's newest member.
ICA is the leading organization for promoting the use of copper worldwide. The Association's thirty-seven member companies represent more than 80% of the world's refined copper output, and are among the largest copper and copper alloy fabricators in the world. ICA is responsible for guiding strategy, funding, and implementing technology initiatives and promotional activities worldwide. Headquartered in New York, ICA has regional offices in Brussels, New York, Santiago, and Singapore. ICA programs and initiatives are executed from thirty-one locations in twenty-four countries.
ICA supports scientific studies regarding copper's role in human health and the environment and research and development leading to new uses for copper and its alloys. For example, a technology for die casting high efficiency copper motor rotors was developed, transferred to industry and commercialized during early 2003. Potential usage exceeds 100,000 tons annually for this entirely new copper market.
During 2003, with ICA support, the US-based Copper Development Association, Inc. intensified development work on a semi-solid casting process for copper alloys. Several parts are currently in production trials. ICA anticipates that activities with the ACRC will further accelerate this important initiative.
