U. S. Representative James McGovern to Lend Support for Energy-Efficient Industries of the Future
Worcester, MA - February 27, 2002 -- U.S. Representative James McGovern will join with other state and federal officials, metal processing industry leaders, scientists, academia, and other interested stakeholders in an upcoming symposium to address how the metal industry can reduce energy consumption and emissions while remaining profitable and competitive. The Metal Processing Vision and Road Mapping Symposium will be held Friday, March 1, 2002, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA.
Designed to improve industry participation in U.S. Department of Energy and state-sponsored energy efficiency and productivity programs, the event is sponsored by the Massachusetts Industries of the Future (a program of the U.S. Department of Energy) and University of Massachusetts, in cooperation with Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
The day's events will feature presentations of resources available from state, federal, and private service organizations as well as exhibits of public/private industry collaboration and energy-efficient products. "Vision and Road Mapping" sessions are planned to elicit exchange of ideas and identification of critical needs areas including materials, manufacturing, and environmental technology.
Denise Swink, U.S. Department of Energy's Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of Industrial Technologies, will travel from Washington, D.C. to provide an overview of the Industries of the Future program.
Also scheduled to speak are Paul Richard, Executive Office of Environmental Affairs; Paul Kennedy, President, Die Casting, and President, Manufacturing Extension Partnership in Massachusetts; Diran Apelian, nationally known leader of Metal Processing Institute at Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Larry Ambs, University of Massachusetts, Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy; and other key leaders.
