Making our World
Making our World is also new for 2008. This seminar will be built around a sequence of team and individual projects tied to major challenges facing engineering in the 21st century: energy, transportation, housing, food distribution, recycling, and health care. In all cases, material science and sustainability will be a unifying theme. Specific questions that will guide your work include:
- How do different types of manufacturing contribute to green house gas (GHG) emissions? What new material processing technologies can capture and sequester GHG emissions?
- How do you measure the environmental impact of engineering decisions? (Which causes more damage to the environment: a Toyota Prius or a Hummer H3?)
- Are recycling technologies energy efficient and how much energy is really saved?
