Mission
The mission of the Office of Undergraduate Studies is to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the undergraduate programs at WPI and, hence, to help WPI achieve its mission and goals of educating young men and women in the theory and practice of the interrelationships among basic knowledge, technolohical advance, and human need. The people in this office advocate for undergraduate students and those who teach them, and work to provide creative vision for the enrichment of our undergraduate programs.

The Dean of Undergraduate Studies has overall responsibility for undergraduate education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The Dean is responsible for managing, developing, assessing, and articulating the values (internally and externally) of the undergraduate program. The Dean will provide leadership and vision in working with faculty governance to implement new undergraduate curricular and structural changes, especially those affecting the first-year program and general education. The Dean is responsible for the protection of student interests and, together with the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Dean of Students, works to ensure the appropriate balance and synergy between academics and student life.
Arthur Heinricher is the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and a Professor of Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Heinricher joined the faculty of WPI in 1992, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, as well as a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon. At WPI, Art's teaching has focused on first and second year students; he has also been very active in advising MQP's and IQP's. He has extensive experience in the pre-college area, including the "Mathematics in Industry Institutes for Teachers," and the "Focus on Mathematics Partnership" programs. Art has served as PI on a very successful REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program that has brought college math students from across the nation to WPI in the summers.

This office recognizes the importance of the transition of students from high school to college. Working with and through the academic departments, and cooperating closely with the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life, the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies has overall responsibility for the academic programs experienced by students in their first year at WPI.
Kristin Wobbe is the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and formerly served as Head of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. She joined the faculty of WPI in 1995 as a John C. Metzger Associate Professor of Chemistry. Dr. Wobbe received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1983 from St. Olaf College and her Ph. D. in Biochemistry in 1991 from Harvard. Professor Wobbe has extensive teaching experience, ranging from first year students to graduate students. She was instrumental in the creation of the Great Problems Seminar program, as well as advising numerous MQP students and graduate students in biochemical research.

The WPI Welcome position was created to assist incoming students with the tasks necessary before they start their WPI career. The Welcome person is the first responder to incoming student and parent questions from how to set up accounts and register for classes to what kind of clothes they should bring for the winter!
Joey Botelho is a junior at WPI studying Management. He plays on the varsity baseball team and is a Residential Advisor. He is also involved with the Student Alumni Society and the men's fraternity Phi Kappa Theta. You will frequently see him hanging out with the school's mascot Gompei!
Fun Fact: One day hopes to base jump off of the world's tallest waterfall Angel Falls!

The Undergraduate Studies All-Star is skilled in all aspects of life in order to be able to perform the vast and varied tasks that may be asked of them. Whether it is updating a website, helping a coworker in times of need or preparing for a University accreditation visit, the All-Star can do it all!
Sylvia Parol is a junior studying Management. She's been working in the Provost Office since the summer before her freshman year. On campus, she is involved in theater, Crimson Key tour guides, and the women’s fraternity Alpha Xi Delta.
Fun Fact: Loves hiking and one day plans to hike all 2,181 miles of the Appalachian Trail!

High-quality academic advising is vital to WPI’s philosophy of education. Every WPI student has a faculty advisor, and the overall advising operation and process is overseen by the Director of Academic Advising. The Academic Advising office assists entering students in planning their first-year schedules, matches students with faculty advisors, helps students with academic and study problems, and provides assistance to students with the need for special accommodations.

Connie Aramento is the Associate Director of Academic Advising and First Year Advising Programs. Connie joined WPI in 2005 and served as the Assistant Director of Student Activities through September 2006 prior to her current position. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, as well as a Masters degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Student Development from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT. Connie is a Certified Holistic Health Counselor from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. She is also a member of National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
