Academic Programs
WPI offers various Major Areas of Study with defined program requirements as well as Individually Designed Majors (IDM's) constructed with faculty guidance. These Individually Designed Majors are supervised by the Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division (IGSD).
The course requirements for Majors, process for pursuing an IDM, and classes offered at WPI can be found in the Undergraduate Course Catalog, or through theAcademics web page.
Students are encouraged to pursue an academic Minor to complement their Major Area of Study. Similar to Majors, a set of minors has been developed and approved by faculty, while the opportunity to initiate other Minor Programs with approval of a sponsoring group of faculty advisors also exists.

Minor Areas of Study and Concentrations
WPI students are encouraged to structure their own academic programs. For example, you may choose additional areas of study over and above your academic Major in the form of a Minor or a Concentration. A Minor is a thematically related set of course work in an area separate from your Major. It typically entails taking six courses and completing a capstone project. A Concentration is offered within your Major or in an area closely related to your Major. To complete a Concentration, you need to select six classes designated by the department. In addition, your Major Project will be focused on a topic related to the Concentration.
