Biomedical Engineering Professors Ki Chon and Yitzhak Mendelson have worked in collaboration with MIT Lincoln Laboratory and received a one year $100,000 Lincoln Laboratory grant. The grant, "Wearable Wireless Sensor Development for Remote Triage: A Collaborative Effort between WPI and MIT/Lincoln Laboratory" will begin October 1, 2011 and end September 30, 2012.

Research efforts include developing an approach to using time-frequency analysis of pulse oximeter data to detect progressive hypovolemia induced with lower body negative pressure in spontaneously breathing healthy subjects. Hypovolemia is a condition in which there is a decreased volume of circulating blood in the body. The goal is to develop a novel sensor and signal processing algorithm for early detection of this condition.
