Major Qualifying Project Requirements
Because the MQP is used to fulfill the design requirement for ABET accreditation, BME department requirements must be met regardless of the advisor's departmental affiliation or the number of BME students on the project.
In addition to any special requirements made by the advisor, all project groups must:
- Keep a design notebook that documents the design process
- Complete an MQP report
- Orally present the results of the project.
Each group is required to keep a notebook that documents the design history of the project and any other relevant material. These notebooks are available from BME and will become the property of the department upon completion of the MQP.
The format of the MQP report must conform to the example contained in the BME department's MQP Tutorial, which is included in the MQP Resource Information Packet. This packet also contains the forms the reviewer uses to evaluate the MQP reports.
Oral Presentation Options
Students can choose from several options for the oral presentation requirement, beginning with the BME Department's Project Presentation Day. Held in D-term of each year, this event involves both undergraduate and graduate presenters.
All projects advised by BME faculty are required to present at this event. If your project is co-advised by a faculty member from a non-BME department, you may also be asked to present at their department's Project Presentation Day event.
If your advisors are all from outside BME, you may present at their department's Project Presentation Day event. You are, however, also encouraged to present at the BME event.
You may also deliver a poster presentation in a non-BME department. For example, if your advisor is from the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department, you may be asked to present at the ME Project Presentation Day poster session. If you will be presenting solely in a department outside BME, you must inform BME prior to Project Presentation Day
