Each year, WPI recognizes first-year students for excellence in their academic work with the designation of Charles O. Thompson Scholars. Thompson scholars are eligible to compete for a scholarship by submitting an essay that completes the picture of their contributions to the WPI community. A reception was held in Higgins House on September 12, honoring the Charles O. Thompson Scholars, who are now sophomores. Of 184 eligible students, we are proud to say that one of our own School of Business students, Jose Luis Ortiz Rosero, was designated as the Outstanding Member of the Class of 2014. Jose Luis is from Quito, Ecuador and is majoring in Industrial Engineering. An additional six students from the School of Business also were honored as Charles O. Thompson Scholars: Mauricio Ledesma (IE), Ran Tian (IE), Veronica Vallenilla (IE), Paige Westlake (MGE), Heidi Wyman (MGE), Yang Yang (IE). Congratulations to all!
