STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Statement of Purpose is your opportunity to differentiate yourself from the hundreds of other applicants who apply each year to the WPI School of Business. This essay portion of your application should be one page, single-spaced, and contain three to five paragraphs. Please discuss the following topics in your essay:
- What brings you to this point?
- Where do you want to go with your career?
- How does the degree program to which you are applying help you achieve your career goals?
- What will you bring to the WPI School of Business community, classroom experience, etc.?
You will be prompted to upload your Statement of Purpose in the Self Evaluation section of the online application. Please note that you must upload a Statement of Purpose before you will be allowed to submit your application. We encourage you to prepare your Statement of Purpose prior to starting the online application.
A current resume outlining your education history and work experience is required. As part of the online application, you will be prompted to upload your resume in the section of the online application. Please note that you must upload a resume before you will be allowed to submit your application. We encourage you to prepare your resume prior to starting the online application to expedite the submission process. Any subsequent changes to your resume after your application has been submitted will need to be communicated to the Office of Admissions.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Three letters of recommendation from individuals able to comment on your professional abilities and potential success in a rigorous graduate business program are required. We place a higher value on recommendations that addresses specific successes, memorable performances, and defining characteristics--details that impart insight to the impact you will have in the classroom and community--than indistinguishable recommendations coming from persons with impressive titles.
As part of the online application, you will be prompted on the Letters of Recommendation section to supply the names and relevant information for three individuals who will be submitting a recommendation on your behalf. Please note that the information you provide on the Letters of Recommendation section is used strictly to indicate to the Office of Admissions who you will be inviting to write letters of recommendations on your behalf.
After submitting your online application, you will need to log back into the online application to initiate an electronic recommendation request for each of your recommenders. On the application overview page, under the For others to complete section, click on Create Invitation to create a request. This section will also provide you with the current status of each recommendation request. You can check the status of your recommendations at anytime by logging back into the online application.
Please note that it is our policy to audit recommendations. Fraudulent behavior will result in an admissions denial.
You must pay a $70 US application fee as part of the online application. The application fee is non-refundable. If you are an WPI alumnus, employee, or current student, you may contact the Office of Admissions to request an application fee waiver.
Additional Application Components
Official transcripts for all previously attended colleges and/or universities must be submitted as part of your admissions application. After you have submitted the WPI online application, only then should you request to have your transcript(s) sent to Databank for processing. If you are in possession of your official transcript(s), you may send them to Databank after submitting the online application. Applicants should not send any paper documents to the Office of Admissions. Doing so will result in a delay in the processing of your application.
Please note that upon completing the online application, you will receive an Application Coversheet email that contains a unique FRBU number. We recommend that your FRBU number be included with your official transcript(s) so Databank can easily match your transcript(s) to your online application. If your FRBU number is not included, the processing of your documents may be delayed.
If you are an international applicant and are unable to obtain multiple official copies of your transcript(s), please contact the Office of Admissions.
