Management Engineering
Integrating Complex Technical Understanding with High-level Management Skills
The management engineering (MGE) major offers the ability to gain depth in management principles while still being able to focus on technical interests. Graduates of this program go on to apply their complex knowledge of management and engineering to design and deliver solutions for manufacturing, product development, and service delivery.
Students take the required management courses and select six others that fit with their career objectives. They may choose to focus on a technical area in one department outside of management or combine courses from several technical areas that fit with their goals.
The MGE major allows students who begin in one discipline, such as engineering, science, or mathematics, to switch majors without losing too much of their prior course work. The program is also well suited to those seeking a double major.
Classroom meets real world through the Major Qualifying Project (MPQ)
A vital part of the learning experience in the management program, an MQP is typically designed for a real, functioning business. The students strive to produce a solution to an actual management need by applying the skills, methods, and knowledge obtained through course work. An MQP may address a variety of areas:
- Process flow analysis
- Automation
- Small business optimization
- Process re-engineering
